As the centuries-old love letter is unveiled at the Yeeon Gallery and the glass shatters, Cheon Yeo-ri is fascinated by the case and offers Prosecutor Ma Gang-uk to be her partner in solving the death of the artist Do-won. Gang-uk readily agrees but insists they should investigate together. Yeo-ri sets a rule that they must keep distance when walking and sit one seat apart.

The love letter, found during the relocation of a grave, makes Do-won appear to Cheon Yeo-ri. He reveals that he painted Hwagyeongdang’s portrait at Yeeon and asks her to find Hwagyeongdang’s remains. Prince Kang Pyeong-gun fell in love with Hwagyeongdang, even though she was Do-won’s lover. Obsessed with making her his wife, he trapped Do-won to eliminate him. A drunken nobleman once slapped Hwagyeongdang when she refused his demands, and Do-won defended her, leading to his punishment by whipping or death. Kang Pyeong-gun threatened to kill Do-won unless she married him. When she escaped to see Do-won, Pyeong-gun caught and brutally murdered her. He hid her death by taking an empty palanquin to Mount Geumgangsan, spreading the rumor that she disappeared in the mountains. No one knew where she was buried.

Ma Gang-uk doubts Do-won’s story because the love letter was found in Kang Pyeong-gun’s tomb. Yeo-ri insists Dow-on has proof and urges Gang-uk to research further. Do-won was recognized as an artist by Hwajeopdo.

At the cemetery, Gang-uk is startled by a man with a sickle. He later visits a monastery to see Do-won’s works passed down to the family. Gang-uk discovers many paintings, including the missing half of the Yeeon painting, identified by a butterfly at the center. The letter was for Do-won, not Kang Pyeong-gun. He concludes that Kang Pyeong-gun was a psychopath, hiding his crime with the empty palanquin and resenting that Hwagyeongdang never loved him.

The mission becomes reuniting Hwagyeongdang and Do-won.

Meanwhile, Director Ok and Director Lee discuss another exchange of the Ju Sin-ho painting. Director Ok asks if Cheon Yeo-ri knows about their transactions. Director Lee denies it, but Yeo-ri calls to visit the gallery the next day.

Gang-uk investigates artworks at Reina Hotel and learns they were purchased from Director Ok Gye-hui at Gallery Cheon. He tells Yeo-ri that the name appeared in an art distribution investigation. Yeo-ri reviews Reina Hotel’s acquisition records, confirmed by Mr. Bong, and requests a list of all artworks purchased through Gallery Cheon over the past 10 years, comparing market values against payments. She warns him to keep it secret.

Prosecutor Im tells Gang-uk that Nam Ji-hun’s art investigation was shut down by the Chief Prosecutor, but she is now handling the case. She suspects money laundering, though not by Reina.

Cheon Yeo-ri tells Director Lee that her obsession lies in the love letter’s words, which read like a final farewell. Director Lee says all materials on Kang Pyeong-gun are in the Yeeon Museum. Kang Min-hwan arrives from Baekhyeon Leisure Town, bringing artifacts that halted construction. He gifts Yeo-ri a pair of gloves, which she appreciates.

Prosecutor Ma Gang-uk meets Prosecutor Im Seo-hyeon at Yeeon Gallery. She invites Yeo-ri and Min-hwan to dinner, which Yeo-ri accepts, surprising Gang-uk. Min-hwan grows annoyed at Gang-uk’s attention toward Yeo-ri. Gang-uk shields Yeo-ri from Im’s touch, irritating both Yeo-ri and Min-hwan.

Later, as Gang-uk and Yeo-ri walk home, they accidentally kiss when he pulls her close to avoid a motorcycle. They wonder if the kiss has the same ghost-seeing effect as holding hands. Gang-uk cautiously checks his house for ghosts. Yeo-ri calls, insisting she will investigate the ancient cold case alone, but he disagrees. She tells him to call her if he sees ghosts again. Both are flustered by the kiss but start the next day without ghostly encounters.

Cheon Yeo-ri visits Chairman Baek for tea, promising to see her more often. Min-hwan investigates Gang-uk’s background and learns he had a heart transplant years ago.

Gang-uk jogs, feeling his heart, and confirms with Yeo-ri that Kang Pyeong-gun’s materials are at the Yeeon Museum. They plan to go together. Mr. Bong, thrilled to run the afternoon meeting, brags to Ms. Eom that he has gained the CEO’s trust.

At the museum, Yeo-ri and Gang-uk find documents on Kang Pyeong-gun, including a drawing of his house, Jetaekdo. They discover half of a love letter page and realize the camellia tree in the garden could mark Hwagyeongdang’s grave.

Cheon Ha-ri tells Cha Gi-u that ghosts caused her engagement’s cancellation. She fears Yeo-ri and Min-hwan’s closeness could cost her family leadership of Reina Hotels.

Yeo-ri offers to buy the camellia tree, but Director Lee refuses. She then offers to trade it for her ancient pine tree, which Director Ok encourages, and Director Lee agrees.

Chairman Baek, hospitalized with Min-hwan, tells Yeo-ri not to reveal her illness, especially to Director Ok. She plans to announce succession at the next shareholder meeting and encourages Yeo-ri to consider marriage to Min-hwan.

Gang-uk and Yeo-ri begin digging up the camellia tree to find the coffin, but rain halts them. Yeo-ri tells Gang-uk she must get engaged, as Chairman Baek has called her to a family dinner with Min-hwan.

At the dinner, Cheon Ha-ri heightens suspense by announcing an additional guest. Prosecutor Ma Gang-uk arrives, and Yeo-ri declares she is marrying him.
