Episode 5. Kidnapped
Yeo-ri is crying in the park outside the hospital, blaming herself for Gang-uk’s misfortune. Suddenly, she sees Gang-uk, whom she mistakes for a ghost. Overcome with guilt, she embraces him—only to realize he is truly alive.
Gang-uk is summoned back to the hospital for more tests by Pil-dong. He sees ghosts wandering the halls, but Yeo-ri advises him to ignore them. She watches over him until his discharge the next day. Strangely, he no longer sees ghosts, and Yeo-ri bids him farewell, vowing never to cross paths again.
Meanwhile, Kang Min-hwan warns the media that any photos or articles about the Reina Group scandal with Cheon Yeo-ri will face prosecution. Chairman Baek informs Yeo-ri about Jeung-sae’s prosecution for her kidnap.
Cheon Yeo-ri confronts Cheon Ha-ri, urging her to stop her evil deeds, though Ha-ri denies involvement in the kidnapping. Min-hwan tells Yeo-ri about the G1A Group selling Fiel Seoul, with CL planning to buy it despite its debts. He expresses concern for her and insists on staying in Seoul for the acquisition. He reminds her of their promised dinner but instead invites her to the Yeeon Museum of Art for the unveiling of an excavated artifact—something his mother requested and something he knows Yeo-ri would find fascinating.
Yeo-ri later speaks to a ghost she encountered at the hospital.
The prosecutors receive a tip about a body in the lake. They discover Yeo-ri’s glove in the water, realizing she was responsible for uncovering the body. She recalls her encounters with Gang-uk.
Gang-uk grows jealous of Min-hwan as he remembers he his a childhood friend of Yeo-ri. At the cafeteria, he overhears Prosecutor Im discussing how wealthy elites use artworks for money laundering. He begins probing the Reina Hotel slush fund. Cheon Yeo-ri brings him to the Yeeon Gallery for the exhibit opening before revealing the truth.
At the gallery, Yeo-ri sees Director Ok Gye-hui with Director Lee Hwa-yong of the Yeeon Foundation together. She learns that Director Ok is involved in purchasing hotel artworks through Gallery Cheon rather than Yeeon Gallery.
The artifact unveiled is a 300-year-old love letter written by Hwagyeongdang, a gisaeng turned poet. Her story mirrors the film Ghost according to them. Director Lee explains that the letter was discovered during the relocation of Prince Gangpyeong’s tomb, capturing Hwagyeongdang’s longing for her prince despite differences in birth and status. The museum itself was built on Prince Gangpyeong’s former residence. The glass case suddenly cracks and shatters, as the artifact is unveiled.
Min-hwan asks a colleague to introduce him to Cha Gi-u, Yeo-ri’s ex-fiancé.
During the unveiling, Min-hwan briefly leaves Yeo-ri. She encounters Prosecutor Ma, who pretends to see ghosts but is caught lying. Min-hwan returns and sees Kang-woo. Yeo-ri grows jealous of Prosecutor Im, who is with Kang-woo. Dow-on, the historical artist identified by Director Lee, appears as a ghost to Cheon Yeo-ri. Prince Gangpyeong had taken Hwagyeongdang as his second wife, but she vanished during an excursion to Mount Gumdang, later becoming a sinseon. Director Lee points out the camellia in the garden as beautiful and colorful. Min-hwan returns to escort Cheon Yeo-ri home, while Prosecutor Ma grows jealous of the attention she receives.
Director Lee asks Director Ok if they should purchase another painting, just as Yeo-ri wishes to revisit the exhibit.
Gang-uk discovers that a painting was bought by Chief Prosecutor Ok Gye-dong and taken abroad. His older sister, Director Ok Gye-hui of Reina Hotels and Resorts, is suspected of laundering money for Reina Hotels. Prosecutor Im remarks that “like attracts like” when she sees a photo of Cheon Yeo-ri, CEO of Reina, alongside CL Group heir Kang Min-hwan.
Yeo-ri grows annoyed by a news article orchestrated by Chairman Baek of the engagement with Min-hwan. Cheon Ha-ri asks if she truly intends to marry Min-hwan, Ji-wan’s brother. Yeo-ri sees Prosecutor Im catching up with Gang-uk and feels jealous. At home, she speaks to the ghosts.
A girl is murdered in the woods and dropped into a well. Days later, her killer returns to get her fingerprint on her last will and testament. Yeo-ri witnesses this and is attacked by the killer, but Gang-uk intervenes. Though Yeo-ri proves the stronger fighter, Gang-uk subdues the killer before the police arrive. The girl’s ghost dissolves into metallic dust as the police arrest her killer. She had reported the body before ascending the mountain.
Together, Yeo-ri and Gang-uk discuss how they solved cold cases, guided by ghosts.
Gang-uk asks Yeo-ri about Min-hwan, while she questions him about Prosecutor Im. He compares their relationship to the moon and the tide. Yeo-ri drives away but soon returns, offering to partner with him to solve the 300-year-old cold case.
