Episode 4: Ghost Encounters

Ma Gang-uk is terrified of the child ghost who piggybacks on him and panics to shake the boy off. Yeo-ri confirms that he can still see the child. The boy holds her hand and leads them to the site of the car crash where he died.

They find the father still alive, who tells them to check the back. There, they discover the boy’s sister barely alive. They lie to the father, saying the boy is still warm, though he has already died. The sister is rescued and taken away in an ambulance. The boy waves goodbye to Yeo-ri and Gang-uk before disappearing in a sprinkle of silver dust.

Gang-uk asks Yeo-ri how long she has had the power to see ghosts. She explains that it began when she almost drowned in college—falling off a yacht and surviving, while Ji-hwan did not. Since then, ghosts have appeared to her, and anyone who touches her can see them too. Rumors spread that touching her was dangerous because ghosts would latch on.
She apologizes for the trouble and misery the ghosts have caused him, telling him they should not meet anymore. She warns that the effect will last four weeks, during which ghosts will visit him. Gang-uk says he finally understands and accepts it.

Gang-uk begins seeing ghosts everywhere—even while jogging. Some paralyze him in his sleep. He ignores them but is startled when they sit at his table or hide behind doors. He arranges religious statues on his desk, drawing jokes from his officemates. To cope, he invites Pil-dong to watch movies with him at home.

Director Ok Gye-hui questions Yeo-ri’s secretary about Prosecutor Ma’s frequent visits, suspecting they are dating.

Yeo-ri ignores Gang-uk’s calls while he struggles with constant ghostly encounters. He visits her house, admitting it must be harder for her, who has borne it for ten years. She advises him to act unafraid, ignore the ghosts, and walk through them at crosswalks. She tells him to throw salt on paths and eat garlic to ward them off. His officemates think he is possessed when he accidentally spits garlic on the head Prosecutor during a meeting.

Yeo-ri and Gang-uk celebrate the end of the four weeks virtually, sharing drinks online. They confess they were both scared but found comfort in sharing experiences. Gang-uk suggests staying in touch, but Yeo-ri insists they return to their lives and act like strangers when they meet.

Meanwhile, Cheon Ha-ri hounds Yeo-ri, showing a video of her at the retrieval site of Eung-sun’s body. Ha-ri asks Park Seung-jae if he will truly deliver the Reina Companies to her when freed.

Seung-jae meets Gang-uk and reveals that Yeo-ri is his Achilles heel. On Ha-ri’s suggestion, he kidnaps Yeo-ri and plans to inject her with drugs.

Gang-uk sees his grandmother digging a hole for kimchi in his yard. She warns him he is not compatible with someone born in the year of the black monkey and tells him not to leave the house that night. Despite this, Gang-uk rescues Yeo-ri, but Park Seung-jae runs him over. Yeo-ri joins him in the ambulance, where he nearly dies. She blames herself, and when Gang-uk appears, she thinks he is a ghost—because she saw him flatline.
