Episode 12. The Grim Reaper

Ma Gang-uk faints in the hospital as Cheon Yeo-ri is rushed into surgery after being hit by a truck and left unconscious. The doctor explains that Gang-uk hyperventilated, but his heart was not affected when Yeo-ri pushed him out of the way of the speeding vehicle.

Gang-uk learns that his heart was donated by Kang Ji-hwan, the son of Ms. Song—vice president of the CL Group—and brother to Min-hwan. He visits Ji-hwan’s tomb to return the pendant and begs Ji-hwan to help Yeo-ri wake up and return to him.

Meanwhile, Yeo-ri dreams of meeting all the dead people she once helped. She sees the grim reaper’s boat touch her, but Ji-hwan appears and tells her not to feel guilty about his death. He assures her that the lives she saved supported her with the warmth of their hands. Ji-hwan says he will return to where he belongs, while she must go back. He boards the grim reaper’s boat, and Yeo-ri awakens surrounded by Chairman Baek.

Gang-uk tells Yeo-ri that his heart was donated by Ji-hwan and that he returned the pendant to his grave. Grandma Pang expresses her wish for their happiness and insists that no one should know Yeo-ri has recovered.

Director Ok, Cheon Ha-ri, and Cheon Dong-jun attempt to visit her at the hospital but hide when they encounter Chairman Baek, aborting their plans. Yeo-ri goes home with Gang-uk, relieved to be free from the ghosts. Gang-uk vows to uncover who caused the accident.

Later, Gang-uk treats Pil-dong and Hyeong-min to a team dinner, where they celebrate Yeo-ri’s recovery.

The mystery of Park Seung-jae’s death lingers. Yeo-ri visits his house to search for evidence, hiding when someone enters—only to discover it is Gang-uk. Together, they find the memory card from a camera that falls from a shelf.

Kang Min-hwan arranges a memorial service for Kang Ji-hwan after 12 years. Ms. Song prepares to announce the successor of CL Group. During the service, a video reveals Min-hwan letting go of Ji-hwan, causing his death.

Yeo-ri tells Ms. Song that the video came from Park Seung-jae’s recorder. Min-hwan threatens to sue Yeo-ri for defamation, claiming he acted to reclaim CL, his mother, and Yeo-ri. She accuses him of not only killing Ji-hwan and Park Seung-jae but also causing the accident that hospitalized her.

Ma Gang-uk arrests Min-hwan at the temple. Prosecutor Im Seo-hyun leads the search and seizure warrant in Director Ok Gye-hui’s office, where she faints upon reading it. She is jailed.

A year later, Cheon Ha-ri works as a hotel front desk clerk. Dong-jun and Ha-ri are told by their mother, Ok Gye-hui, to remain loyal to Cheon Yeo-ri to earn her favor.

Mr. Bong is promoted to the board of directors and boasts to Ms. Eom. Gang-uk is promoted to Deputy Chief Prosecutor in Seoul, though Yeo-ri chooses to celebrate with him in Andong, where they ride bicycles through the fields.

Min-hwan, now in prison, is visited by his mother Ms. Song. He asks forgiveness for Ji-hwan’s death, and she assures him she will remain by his side.

Gang-uk’s office welcomes him as Deputy Chief Prosecutor. Yeo-ri helps a child who stumbles, surprising her staff. Chairman Baek officially turns over the chairmanship to Cheon Yeo-ri.

Finally, Gang-uk and Yeo-ri walk hand in hand, unafraid of the ghosts that once haunted them.
