Episode 11. The Pendant

Ma Gang-uk and Cheon Yeo-ri break up after she announces that they must part ways. She avoids telling him about Grandma Pang’s visit and instead blames him for not revealing his heart surgery, insisting that he would suffer if they stayed together. She recalls Grandma Pang’s warning that his life would be in jeopardy if they remained together, just like the accident that nearly killed him.

Cheon Yeo-ri faces another attempt to buy shares in the Reina Group by DLC Securities, backed by the CL Group. She meets Kang Min-hwan and confronts him about purchasing shares and influencing Han Se-in to sell hers. She adds that she learned he took Ji-hwan’s necklace after meeting a member of the rescue team from the yacht accident.

Meanwhile, Ms. Song discovers the necklace hidden in Min-hwan’s desk while placing a gift in a drawer. When she asks him why he had it, he lies, claiming he found it after 12 years and intended to give it to her at the memorial.

Ms. Song later has lunch with Grandma Pang to introduce her to Ma Gang-uk, who does not know that her son Kang Ji-hwan donated his heart. She gives Gang-uk the necklace, saying it should bring him good luck and fortune.

Kang Min-hwan realizes the necklace was given to Gang-uk and understands that his mother was in Korea to see Gang-uk during the engagement, not Yeo-ri. He learns from records that Gang-uk was the recipient of Ji-hwan’s heart after the accident 12 years earlier.

Yeo-ri ignores Gang-uk’s calls, driving him to drink with his colleagues. He tells them the necklace was meant to connect him to her. Attempting to sleep in a tent like Yeo-ri, he struggles, and both suffer through the separation. Yeo-ri goes to the prosecutor’s office to answer questions about embezzlement without his help. She tells Prosecutor Im Seo-hyeon she never met Assemblyman Park Jin-dong and offers her phone records. A USB drive reveals that Director Ok of Gallery Cheon and Kim So-hui, Reina’s Team Leader, conspired to commit breach of trust and embezzlement through inflated art purchases. Yeo-ri requests a formal investigation.

Gang-uk escorts Yeo-ri away from the media after her testimony and brings her home. He gives her the necklace for protection, promising to find its maker. He tells her she need not break her promise to Grandma Pang by avoiding him—he will go to her instead.

Ma Gang-uk reports Chief Prosecutor Ok Gye-dong to the ministry, and District Chief Prosecutor Min Chung-seok is assigned to investigate Ok and Assemblyman Park Jin-dong for bribery and illicit solicitation. Kim So-hui confesses after being told she would be the scapegoat due to her ties to Director Ok and Chief Prosecutor Ok.

Assemblyman Park Jin-dong is later found dead in his office. Evidence shows he accepted bribes and was linked to the Yeeon Museum of Art’s stock trading through borrowed accounts. He also pressured officials to reroute a highway away from his family burial grounds. Director Ok informs Cheon Ha-ri of his suicide.

Gang-uk and Yeo-ri uncover the story behind the pendant, crafted by a shaman’s mother. When the shaman touches it, she sees Ji-hwan giving it to Yeo-ri and how she tried to save him. She explains that Yeo-ri can see ghosts because she saved him from the grim reaper. Her cold hands are the consequence, and the only way to stop seeing ghosts is to pay with her life. Gang-uk is horrified, insisting there must be another way. Yeo-ri returns the pendant to him, knowing he needs it more.

Park Seung-jae is released from jail to attend his father’s wake, but no visitors come. He violates his temporary leave, becoming a fugitive bent on vengeance. He finds his old video camera, which captured Ji-hwan’s death on the yacht, clearly showing Min-hwan as responsible. He messages Yeo-ri to meet him later that day.

Seung-jae blackmails Min-hwan, demanding 10 billion won and safe passage abroad in exchange for silence. Outraged, Min-hwan kills him with a bar and takes the evidence. Gang-uk receives word of Seung-jae’s violation and joins the operation. He finds Yeo-ri at the crime scene, where Seung-jae lies dead.

Prosecutor Im is ordered to drop the investigation. This surprises her.

Min-hwan is reassured by his mother that succession will be announced during Ji-hwan’s memorial service.

Later, Gang-uk returns to the warehouse where Seung-jae was killed and finds Min-hwan’s cuff link. A truck speeds toward him, but Yeo-ri pushes him out of the way and is struck instead. She is left unconscious.
